Sew Turn and Stuff

I have spending a lot of my "winter" time reading...
not just my favorite...
historical fiction, or crazy enough,
 even poetry
but also quilting books,
which is what sweet dreams are made of!

It is no news that I love pretty much everything
by Miss Rosie's Quilt Company
also known as Carrie Nelson...

So, above
is a couple of my newest books and I have actually
had a little free play time to  experiment with the Pin Pals
pincushions book by Carrie Nelson.

Here are a few other pincushions that are projects
in the book.
They all are  so cute... so fair warning...
if you start making them,
it will be like
"If you give a mouse a cookie"
syndrome so be prepared!

(the images here are from the Pin Pals book)

Carrie is a master of small blocks and Schnibbles,
but her techniques and tips for making up
these precious gifts (for a friend or yourself)
really puts her in a league of her own.

(photos are by Brent Kane)

I love all the information in the book including tips
when you poke a hole in your corner when turning
the pin pal and
all the info on types of thread.
So helpful!

Does it look like there are a lot of
pincushions?
The book is jammed packed with 40 different
projects... that are great for using up your
favorite little
bits of fabrics or showcasing
your mini charm packs!

You can find a copy of this book on Amazon

Carrie has another  book that has just been
released...
isn't she busy?
I will share more about Summer Moon next time along
with a few finished
 pincushions of mine from the
Pin Pals book.

Thank you for visiting me!

Really, the Month is Over?

Before this month is officially over...
I thought I would
say hello for the first time in 2019
and reacquaint myself here!

We took a little family weekend trip here this month...
Monterey Bay Aquarium.
It was so fun with all the
kids and grand littles!

Unfortunately my phone flat-lined a few weeks ago
(while in Monterey)
and I lost my photos
 and ALL of my
phone numbers!

However,
I was able to take the SD card from the phone and
bought a little item to put it in and then upload it to my
computer... thank goodness!
So good news... my photos are back
but
bad news... my phone numbers are irretrievable.
Oh,
and I have had a bit of a learning curve navigating a new phone.

What I am happy about is having an iPhone now and hopefully
my photography will improve!

Here is my first project for 2019!
I had cut it out MONTHS a-g-o
but never seemed to get it off the back-burner and
to the sewing table.
So it was the priority for January!

It was such a fun quilt to make...
and I didn't get anything turned around, as I
was afraid would happen!
The pattern is by Trish Poolson and it's free on the Riley Blake website.
You can get the pattern here (can't find page, sorry)
and a yellow rose version is also available here.

I also worked on this project this month...
it's called A Little Break.
This cute heart on a cup pattern is now available...

Here is my finished top!
Satomi has been so busy over the last year... making
some really cute patterns!
You can find her shop here.
But you can find her over at Instagram too...
satomi_quilts
She is so sweet... you should follow her if you don't already!

I have already started cutting out a quilt for February...
so, I will be back soon!
But more importantly, I need to
start spending more time viewing
your blogs... to see what you are
 doing so far in 2019!

The Stockings Were Hung...

Well hello!
Is it starting to feel a bit like Christmas where you are?
I have been enjoying the crisp winter weather...
mornings have been in the low 30's.
Definitely sweater weather!

Are you sewing along with A Very Vintage Christmas
and the Fat Quarter Shop?

I have been busy making the Stocking Block
this week...

There is not only one or two...

but I have made 4!

The Very Vintage Christmas book by Lori Holt of
Bee in My Bonnet has so many fun blocks...
and projects too!

I made the fun little Christmas quilt along that she
had put together on IG a few years ago...
using the blocks from her Quilty Fun book.

It is one of my favorite holiday quilts!

This time I decided to make a row quilt following
one of the patterns in her book.

There are lots of

fun projects,
 large and small,
 in this book!

I decided I needed a row of stars too...

I will have more to show next week...
but for now, I need to go check out the other bloggers
and Instagramers to see what that made this week!

You can see link to the other blogs

Still Enjoying Perfection

Here we are!
The first week of December!
Can you believe it?

It's also been 10
Perfect 10 Quilt weeks!

We have one more week to go in the
sew along with Fat Quarter Shop.

Have you been quilting along or
have you been enjoying the
Perfect 10 Quilt Along from the sidelines?

I was really surprised at the
uniqueness of the first little block...

These two blocks are the last ones in the book!
Rainbow Sherbet and Rocky Road!
Which is your favorite?

Now it's time for a wee bit less sewing and
a little bit more holiday planning...

(boxes have the vintage ornaments in them)

But as soon as I finish decorating this tree... I will be back
to show you the Perfect 10 Quilt...
all together and bound!

Each of these blocks are stand alone projects in
I hope to make a couple of the quilts in the book...
but for now
the sampler of all the blocks
have been so fun to make!

Be sure to visit all of the bloggers in the
Perfect 10 Quilt Along!

Neapolitan or Peaches N Cream?

Image result for perfect 10 quilt book

Can you believe that it's
week 7 for the

The quilt along is by Fat Quarter Shop and
It's So Emma. They made a great book of projects
and designed a great layer cake ruler to go with it!
The ruler is fabulous... especially if you use layer cakes.

I can't believe someone hasn't developed one of these 10" square rulers before!

This week was pretty fun...
we made these little blocks...
It always amazes me to see what you can do with a flying geese unit!

I thought I would use my chalkboard for a size comparison.

Here is the Peaches n Cream block...

I would like to make the full size quilt using this block!
I think it would be great to use holiday colors for it.
Can't you just imagine?

Next week is the final week for the sampler...

Rainbow Sherbet and Rocky Road are the last two
to make up and then
it will be time to put them into
rows!

Are you quilting along?
I hope so,
these weekly blocks are very doable :)

Vintage Christmas Sew Along: Past Present & Future

It has taken me forever to decide on my fabrics... and then
pull them together... and here we are at week 4
of the A Very Vintage Christmas Sew Along
featuring the Vintage Christmas
book by Lori Holt!

Here is a view of Christmas Past:

I can't believe that it has been 4 years since
I participated in Lori Holt's Have
 Yourself A Quilty Little
 Christmas Quilt Along. (2014)
I really enjoyed making this one
so... I guess it's a given that I would love to play
along in this Sew Along with FQS!

Each week there has been 5 little blocks to make...
actually, there are two size options in the book.
A 6" block or a 12" block.

This week I will be doing some catch up...
so if you haven't started yet... there is time to
grab some cute fabrics...
I am using an assortment including Lori Holt's
Christmas line Cozy Christmas!

Here is a view of Christmas Present:

There are so many options in Vintage Christmas!
The possibilities are endless! I love the variety of
projects... you can see why I had a hard time
deciding!

But for the sampler quilt you will need/want
the book and grab some fabrics...

Here are the fabric requirements:

or you could just order the kit that is available at

Here are the bloggers that are posting their blocks
this week:

FQS Perfect 10 Tuesday

Image result for Fat Quarter shop perfect 10 quilt along
This is the finished

Here we are at week #6 in this 8 week
quilt along with the Fat Quarter Shop!
I have half of my blocks made for this quilt and
I am getting so anxious to lay it out and put it together!

This week  I made the Sorbet block
 in "lemon and lime"!

And the second block for this week was
Mint Chocolate Chip!
Which was my most favorite ice cream
when I was a kid!

The blocks are super quick to cut out,
especially with the Perfect 10 Ruler.

These prints in the Clover Hollow layer cake
by Sherri at A Quilting Life are so cute.
I have enjoyed pulling a 10" square
or two from the stack
each week and seeing how
pretty these blocks are made
 up in this fabric line.

Perfect 10 Book and Perfect 10 Ruler

There are a couple more weeks in the quilt along...
but I wouldn't let that stop you from buying this book...
not only is there plenty of time to make your own Perfect 10 sampler...
 but
each of these
 blocks in the
sampler are made up into
super cute full size quilts...
all of them using a layer cake!

Have you seen the Perfect 10 blocks by these bloggers this week?
