Leap Day Giveaway?

Somewhere in the last few weeks,
even though my postings have been sparse...
I have managed to hit a couple of landmarks.
Since today is a special day... marking leap year...
(does that make it Leap Day)?
Anyway, to celebrate Leap Day,
over 400 posts
 and over 600 followers,
I thought I should have a little celebration.
I would like to announce a little giveaway.

I will be giving away a kit of this wall hanging pattern with fabric.
A sweet little something for your sewing room.
But that's not all!
I love this little pattern by Fig Tree, 3 Blind Mice. So,
I am also going to pick 3 names from my followers list and make
each of those winners a mouse pincushion.

So leave a little comment to be entered.
Maybe some grandma advise?
(edit: or share what made  your gma extra special)
And if you want to be entered for a mouse pincushion make sure you are
on my followers list.
I will pick winners next Wednesday, March 7th.
How does that sound?

Let's see, what else?

I normally sew for a couple of hours nearly each and every day.
I always say that it is my therapy. But that is no joke...
it really is my therapy!
Needless to say that I only manage to get in a couple of hours of sewing per week right now.
I try to fit it in when and where ever I possibly can, just to get a few things
done...
like my Schnibbles project
and
this little quilt for my grand daughter...
arriving late March!

I was suppose to put leaves on the stems
but the package of 10 yards of fusible web that I purchased
was actually not fusible webbing... it was fusible interfacing.
I managed to find a tiny little bit of fusible  in my
messy sewing room.. but of course, it stuck to the fabric
and the paper would not release. Don't you hate that when that happens?
Anyway, the leaves could still happen but today this was put in the
trusty hands of my LAQ.

My friend made the joke that at least I won't get pulled over
for having a sewing machine in my car, like I  could be for
drunk driving!
Good point!
I actually don't drink.. but I thought she was funny.

I'm not a Grandma yet, but the best advice I could give is to make lots of quilts for the little one! LOL! No, actually, sometimes a fussy baby can be soothed nicely by just lightly scratching their back! I love the quilt and don't miss the leaves at all! They sort of look like lollipops to me!

Roxanne said...

A giveaway? Wonderful. I'd love to win. And I like the flower quilt but it would be better with leaves. :) Can't wait to see it finished!

Kathy said...

Thanks for the giveaway chance! I'm a follower, but I don't have any Grandma advice since I'm not one yet. Although, based on my grandmothers, I'd say teach your grandchildren to sew/knit/crochet/quilt when the time is right! I have appreciated learning from mine. And make lots of cookies for them! Nobody makes cookies like a grandma.

Joan and Kevin said...

I am a Grandma it is sooo much fun. I have made my granddaughter a quilt, blankets, burp clothes, bibs, sleep sack and even knitted her 5 pairs of socks. Thanks for the giveaway!

Congratulations on over 400 posts and over 600 followers! My grandmother advise to you is keep blogging .... I enjoy your blog! Happy quilting.

As a grandmother, and great-grandmother, I say love with abandon, kiss and hug until they won't let you anymore, haven't gotten there yet. I love your blog, visit daily..

Michele said...

400 posts and 600 followers? Congratulations :-) I hope you are having a nice day and finding a bit of time for yourself. Grandma advice? Not from me yet. I would think making lots of quilts would be a good thing! No one can have too many :-) Love that quilt you are working on now!! I'm a follower of course, just one of those grey shadows for some reason. I can never figure out why I show up that way on some blogs.

Lesley said...

Congrats on your wonderful accomplishments. You're so sweet to be having a giveaway. I love your happy smiley face quilt block. I'm not a grandma, but I do remember my grandma's special cookies. Of course, no cookies for babies, just lots of hugs!

Congratulations on hitting 400 posts and 600 followers!

Love the corners on your flower quilt.

Our Grandkids are up North so no hands on advice. With my kids I always wished my parents/family would at least follow some of our rules. My Father would say no rules at his house and let the kids run wild. I know Grandparent's houses are supposed to be relaxed and fun but kids still need some structure.

Mary said...

Would love to be included in your giveaway. I am not a Grandma, (son 26 not married yet.) so can't help there. Can say I love the quilt you are making for your granddaughter. Have a great day!!

Jocelyn said...

Congratulations Sinta! What a great giveaway! Don't have any grandma advise, as I'm not one yet. Except maybe just love her and kiss her, because you know all too well how quickly they grow up :-)

QUILTING IS BLISSFUL, DI said...

Hi Sinta--as for Granny advice--I am way old enough--just don't have any--but this is what I would do if I did have some--I would love them to death, spoil them rotten, and then send them back home for their parents to 'retrain' and control them all over again!!!
I think I would also lay in the grass with them and look at the sky and clouds or do angel snow patterns whatever--do everything with them at there level--in other words, I would be a 'kid' again myself!!!
have fun with them-
and I want one of them mice for my collection!!!!!!lol
Hugs, Di and miss gracie

I am a follower! My advice? Lots of hugs and kisses, grandkids are ALWAYS welcome and can come over ANYTIME! It means alot to them when they are older, ie: teenagers.
The mice are soo cute, but not as cute as the smiling face dresden quilt!
Take care Leslie

Well, I'll tell that something that made my Grandma special, was the fact she was 102 years old, when she passed away, it just happened last september and I'm still hurt, but I know she's fine. She had a great life

Pat from Florida said...

I'm a nana, and my advice, make time to make each grandchild feel special. They are!

Pat from Florida said...

Yes, I follow! Who wouldn't?

Congratulations on soon being a Grandma...I have been one for over 9 years now and it is the best thing. So lucky that GS and GD live in our little town and I get to see them often. Best advice I can give is treasure every moment because they go past faster than when your children were growing. Give them your time...they get plenty of 'stuff' from others.

I am a grand mother 4 times for 4 Wonderful precious Boys! Lots of fun. This special flower quilt is just adorable! it;s perfect. I would be so pleased to win one of your giveaways, both are fabulous, I love one as much as the other. Thanks for the chance!

Oh those mice are so dang cute.....I already am blessed with a cute pincushion of yours that i keep handy all the time, and think of you as I am sewing away. Grandma advice. Hmm. Well, around here...grandma has special rules at her house. Little boys get to stay up late, eat her delicious popcorn, play games, and have a good time. When I delivered, I had a difficult experience and a long recovery. My mom blessed us several nights but staying and getting up with baby, as I was under strict rest order. That was nice. She for that matter blesses all the time with baby sitting, and often makes us dinner, does dishes, or a load of laundry to help out. Grandmas rock.

Love the baby quilt, who needs leaves, they just fall off sooner or later anyway!

I follow you via my Google reader - and I have for a long time. Exciting to be preparing for a grandchild. I have three - two boys for my older daughter, an 11 month old for my younger one - and she is expecting our newest grandson June 1. All three have quilts (multiple quilts) and there is a stack of fabric waiting to be made for the new little fellow.
Thanks for your blog!!

My grandma made me feel special by spending time one on one. She didn't drive, so one of my favorite memories is taking the bus to Daytons in Downtown Minneapolis. Taking the city bus was an adventure.

Carol said...

Cute little quilt for your granddaughter. I never had a Grandmother so I'm unsure what advice a Grandmother would give. That little sewing machine quilt is so cute!

Betty Lou said...

So exciting to know that a new little baby is coming into your family. My best advice would to be "to enjoy every moment you spend with them, they grow up all too soon." I have been a Follower for a long time, in fact before I had my own blog I would read yours as a feed.

Debbie said...

Just be prepared for your world to change...nothing like it....And be prepared for less quilting time...I speak from experience!

My grandma was kind. She is the reason I became a teacher, I wanted to be like her. There was a school room set up in the basement of her house for us grandkids to play in. I remember teaching my invisible students for hours. She would play with us, talk to us and always make each of us feel special. I love the quilt you are making for your new grandbaby. :)

The quilt for your grand daughter IS ADORABLE! I wish I could do something like that. Hm... advice! I have no own children, but I would say my grand nieces, that never stop learning.

My Grammy advice is to get lots of hugs and kisses in and to always talk with her and before you know it she'll be talking with you, such fun to hear the things they come up with. I LOVE being a Grammy!!!!!!!!
The little dresdens quilt is adorable!
Thanks for the great giveaway.

I guess my grandma would advise me to live life to the fullest - she thinks nothing of jetting off around the world when she feels like it!

Kathy MacKie said...

As the Grand kids get older they can give you some great advice. At Christmas the G-daughters learnt this from school when it came to receiving presents-"you get what you get and you don't get upset". We all can learn from that.

At the rate my kids are going, I will not be a grandma in this lifetime. So no advice. But that stitched sewing machine is to die for!

Gloria said...

My grandmothers died before I was born but, should I ever become a grandmother, my advice will be "Read all the babycare books you want but remember that the baby won't have read any of them! So don't expect your baby to conform to the books' advice!"

Patty said...

I remember visiting my grandma so many years ago. She always made me feel special - it was whre I got to have Coke and other cool food my mom didn't let me have. Congrats on becoming a grandma!

My best thing my grandma ever gave me was a hand applique ballariina quilt that I still have to this day, it is hand quilted and hand appliqued. I love it!

Debi said...

Very cute baby quilt. I made several for Reed and making new ones for Charley Mae due in late June. The thing they use the most if the custom burp cloths I made from diapers.

Debi said...

My grandma advise (I have 3) is to kiss/hold/love on them as much as possible while they are small, because when they get to be 5+ they won't let you do as much.

Josie McRazie said...

Just a Mom here, but I tell you gifts from Nana (Granny, Gran, G-Ma, Ga whatever you choose to be called) are always a treasure for kids! I love your work! You will have very lucky grandkids!!

Thank you for a great giveaway. I am a Grandmother or Mumbo as my grandchildren call me. Being a Grandmother is one of the best things in life. It is magical. Today I get to spend the day with the youngest who is only 4 months old. Can't wait to see the smiles.

My grandma advice is to spend as much time as you can with them when they are little so that they really get to know you. No matter what other people say, I don't think you can spoil a baby by rocking them too much.

I'd love to win the mouse pincushion. I've been a follower for a long time! My grandma taught me to sew - how perfect is that for a pincushion give-away? Your friend had a great point about the sewing machine!

I'm a follower and a grandma. Advice - spend as much time as possible with your grandchild. They grow up so fast and change everyday!

What's the difference? Fusible web versus interfacing? I thought they were the same?? I guess I was wrong. The quilt for your granddaughter-to-be is ADORABLE! you will be a great Grandma, Sinta. Just go with your gut BUT don't give too much advice to the new parents. Some things we just need to learn as we go along. That was my biggest pet peeve when Amelia was a baby. :)

Sallie said...

Congratulations on becoming a grandma. I remember making pies with my grandma. Thanks for the giveaway.

Mary said...

I became a grammy 21 glorious months ago. Our little Melanie is so much fun. My only advice is to just enjoy the ride! I decided time was way more important to spend with her than money. (Even though I have spent my share of money for her, too.) She loves to sit on my lap and "Tew". I just about flipped today when she tried to hug the sewing machine!

pinsandneedles said...

What a cute quilt for your granddaughter! Love the use of the dresdens. I'm not a grandma yet but my advice would be to be present in your granddaughter's life. My grandma was also available and I really appreciated her. Thanks...I'd love to win one of your mice...I'm a follower!

knittingtheblues said...

Aww, you made me think of my mom-mom who has been gone for a lot of years. The one thing I remember about her and I hope I do this for my grandchildren, she always made it seem like we were the only children on the face of the earth. All of her other grandchildren lived near to her and we didn't, so we usually only saw her once a year when we visited. From the second we invaded her home she dropped everything for us and the smallest field trips, like blueberry picking, were the most fun. Of course, New Jersey blueberries are their own treat, it was double great.

A new grandchild, how wonderful! My grandmother sewed our special dresses for us -first communion, homecoming dance, etc. I have wonderful memories of spending time with her while she sewed a special new outfit for me. She also just loved us. I don't remember her criticizing us. Grandchildren are just to love:_

Hi ,thanks for the beautiful giveaway. I love my little grandsons and the my best advice is just to give them lots of one on one time. This is what my Jonah loves and he would come and stay with us every weekend. Leave the teaching and scolding etc up to Mom and Dad you had your time at that. Blessings Sandra

Congratulations on becoming a Grandma! It's so fun! My granddaughter is two and I have a grandson arriving in about 4 weeks. Sadly, they live 2000 miles away so I only get to see them a couple of times a year. Still, it's so much fun I know you'll have a blast.

Thanks for the chance at the giveaway. And congrats also on 400 and 600.

Be content with whatever the grandbaby decides to call you because they will figure out the one name you really don't care for and that will be it. LOL Love the quilt. Every Christmas I make a quilt that goes with a book or books for a gift. That way they can snuggle and read.
