Coming In For A Landing

Just a wee bit more to do on my Studly and the Mrs. quilt.

I got all of those 1,244 flying geese to get into formation!
(not a true count)hehe
But I'm not done yet. This quilt just fits the top of the bed.
But I have more fabric... so I thought I would continue the borders on it.
Kelly's pattern does call for one more 2 1/2" border outside the FG border, like the inside one.
I thought I would add that and then maybe the brown floral that you see in the bottom photo.
I would really like like to use the other "needlepoint" print fabric on the outer border and I was
thinking of making it pretty wide... 6-8-10 inches??? What do you think of those options?
Is 8" about as wide as you would go?
Just like the quilt top I shared yesterday,
this quilt was made solely with stash fabric and the border fabrics
are from my stash as well, so I thought it
was a good opportunity to use it up.

Of course, anything left over could go towards my Schnibbles stash. right?!

Oh Sinta, it's so pretty! I just love Kelly's pattern, it's so beautiful. I think I overestimated how long it would take me to make both a Studly and a Mrs. quilt though-I'm still working on blocks!
Yours is gorgeous though and I think a wide border would be beautiful:-)

Another gorgeous quilt Sinta!!!! You go girl!!! No time for piecing for me right now, so I'm totally living vicariously through you and loving every second of these tops you've been piecing. I always thought 8" was the widest border a quilt should have, BUT I just quilted a client quilt that had a 10" border and it looked really nice. I quilted curling feathers and it looks beautiful. Just sayin.

You must have a fabulous stash!!! It looks gorgeous. I would probably stick with the 8" too. It will be perfect for some fun quilting design.

I am very adventurous. I would put a 3.5 inch after the flying geese, then do another pieced border after that that equaled about 8 inches. Either bunches of little stars, or piano key style using up a lot of the fabrics that are in the top. Then the rest of the fabric would go into piecing the back of it. But I don't usually do things the way everyone else would do them either.

Wow, is that ever beautiful Sinta Renee!! You can do what ever size border works for you.

I always have to try out border sizes before I decide. You know - lay out the border fabric and then put the quilt on top of it. When I do that, it's pretty easy to see which size works best. I really like this quilt!!!

Sinta, I'm just a beginner so my opinion doesn't count for much, but I think that the brown floral fabric is the perfect choice for a wide border. I'd still do a narrow border in some sort of small piecing...the piano keys or the stars both sound like great ideas.

It's a beautiful pattern and you've certainly made some smart choices with your fabrics. Gorgeous!

Hugs,
Pam

I think a wider border would look just fine. Your quilt is so pretty. All those flying geese look like they took a very long time.

Sinta, I do not think I could handle all those flying geese. I always have point troubles. But, it is certainly worth your efforts, just gorgeous.
