It's My Day! Red White and Blue.Blog Hop!

A couple weeks ago I had to just stop
and take some time and clean my sewing room.
While I was busy cleaning up I ran across this
magazine: QUILT

It was published in 2002... and I actually have a couple of quilts and an article
in the publication. This was my first publishing (so exciting).
Anyway, I kept it out to show the red, white and blue sampler quilt
on the cover and a few of the antique quilts they featured inside

Here is my Red White and Blue blog hop block:

(sorry if the colors aren't showing well. I am using a light blue
with the red and white.).

My block is an original pattern from my LQS.
The owner gave me permission to use it.
It was the block she made up for the local
shop hop this year.

 cutting instructions:
Center cut (1) 4 1/2" sq.for center square
white: cut (4) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles for flying geese
blue: cut (1) 4 1/4" sq; cut on both diagonals for flying geese

white: cut (6) 2 7/8" sq; cut on diagonal one way for half square triangles
blue: cut (10) 2 7/8" squares; cut each on the diagonal one way
for half square triangles
red: (4) 2 1/2" sq. for corner posts
Piecing instructions:
1. Make 12 half sq. triangles using C & F pieces; press seam to dark.
2. Sew 3 half sq. triangles and 1 D sq to make a 4 patch unit.
Make 4 of these units.
3. Make 4 flying geese units using C and E pieces; press seams to C. Sew white B rectangle to each of the flying geese; press seam to B.
4. Lay out the 4-patch units, flying geese units and center square.
Join to make the block.

For all things red white and blue my favorite resource is
Not only for their fabulous fabric lines but also their books and patterns.
My favorite right now is a new release....

Here is a  little peak inside....

But I have a couple of other fun quilts to share too....

(APQ)
(Thimble Creek)
Doesn't that just make you want to go in your sewing room and play?
Please let me say...

THANK YOU
to the fabulous Madame Samm for this fun Blog Hop .
I think it was such a great idea!
and also...
a BIG THANK YOU to

and keeping a schedule for all of us! You are amazing!
Both of you ladies have done a great job!
Please make sure you visit all the other's that
are on the schedule for today...

Tomorrow is the last day of the hop!

I loved seeing all the interesting R/W/B quilts in the book - your block fabrics look familiar and could be because I favor the medium colors. Thanks for sharing your great block. Judy C

Minick and Simpson are one of my favorites too. Love your block! I've got a lot of 2.5" RW&B strips and I can see one of those jelly roll quilts being stitched real soon. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing in the RW&B hop. Have a Happy Day!!

Beautiful quilt block. Thank you for taking the time to show us and for the tutorial as well.

I've seen the QUILT magazine a few times and am considering subscribing to that once the other subscriptions I have now are done. I really like that magazine too.

What fun! Love the mix of brights, some mediums and the muted tones - certainly shows how R/W/B can be incorporated into a quilt in different looks.

Very pretty! What magazine is the RWB sampler in? A friend of mine from church has been given me her old quilting magazines from 2000 on and I think I have that sampler bookmarked. Somewhere :) Oh, if I could only live long enough to make all the quilts I want!

Thanks so much for sharing your block!
