I got up early every morning this week and
worked on my new project!
I thought I was dong well with it and by
Saturday morning I would really be able to get a good grip on
it. I made all of my flying geese units and then went
on to make the HST's.
The project is Star Blossoms. The first one to do from
my list for the "2nd Quarter" of 2014.
Ms. Cupcake is going to be working on it too... so you know that
means that she will simply blink and be done!
Unfortunately, there had been a nagging thought...
I kept looking at my cutting table and looking at
my stacks of cut pieces... but I just couldn't put
my finger on it!
Until yesterday.
Then I realized that I made a terrible mistake as I started to assemble the
star blocks! About the second one through I noticed that it
just wasn't going to work!
You know why?
Because I used the wrong pieces to make the flying geese! I made them in
the reverse!!!!
I blame this to switching to decaffeinated tea.
So, now I am busy ordering more fabric.
Secondly, purchasing caffeinated tea.
Then we will see how far I get tomorrow.
And just for good measure I am going to make some
good karma here and offer a little de-stashing giveaway!
I have a flat rate envelope stuffed full of
patterns that I am going to give away.
I counted 2 dozen.
I thought that if the winner didn't want all of the patterns
they might pick and choose, maybe add to the envelope
and have a little giveaway of their own.
Just a thought.
Then I have a Block of the Month that I am
able to stuff into another envelope.
This is McKenna Ryan's Storybrook Farm.
Patterns and fabric included.
(I did make the first section... and that will
be included as a head
start to whoever would like it).
So, just say if you would be interested in
Envelope #1 Pattern Assortment
or Envelope #2 Storybrook Farm
It's Friday today... and I will away this next week but
leave a comment and I will announce a winner for each giveaway
on Tuesday... Earth Day.
edit:
oops...I meant this Tuesday the 15th
... but not Earth Day... that's the next week.
I am listening to Elton John- Believe, right now.
Here is a link. I think it's a good song to start the weekend with!
Good luck on this
Good Friday!

Sweetie, you are not alone with this kind of 'oops'. I don't think I could ever go de-caf (coffee, tea, or soda). What a very generous give away - since I don't do a lot of applique (although this is a lovely piece), I will chose #1.
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
What a nice give away. I vote for number 1.
Ohhh...Been there and done that. #2 seems like a great way to go
Patterns please. And I'll cross my fingers for the project making to go better for you!!
I'm so sorry this happened! But, unfortunately, I know the feeling and can empathize!
Thank you for the sweet giveaway! I would choose #1!
I would lov #1 and thank you for the chance
Been there, made that kind of mistake. And wanted to smack myself. Enter me in the drawing for the patterns, please. I should do this on my blog too.
Yep, I've make some dozzies of mistakes! It's character-building!
Put me in the pattern pool!
Don't you just HATE it when things go wrong!! Yup...been there, done that!! Please throw my name into your #1 patterns give away!! I have some that need to be recycled too!!Thanks for the chance!
Take care!
Paulette
Wow......toss my name in the hat. I'll pick #2, but either would be fine....grin. Thanks for the chance.
Wow, I have the same problem....
Dontcha just love OOPSIES....I do it more often than I'd like to admit :)
I'd love either box of goodies but mostly the patterns especially if there are some Schnibbles :)
Peggy in NJ
I would love some new patterns. Please count me in for number 1. thank you for you kindness!
judy
Envelope 1 sounds very interesting! Thanks for the opportunity! Good luck with your new pattern and "power" tea!
qltdiva1@fuse.net
Keep on keeping on - even through the 'learning' times! Thanks for the giveaway. #1 sounds interesting!
Woooo, I guess I'm not alone to do that kind of mistakes...I really know the feeling..#1 would sound great to me!
I would love to continue on the pattern add to and ship forward to another person or bee memebers or anyone. Helping one another is key
thank you
aka kingcooper0001@aol.com
Ooo, Sinta, sorry to hear about the new start fiasco. That's so annoying (but sounds so much like me!!). I will never go decaf!! Cannot! Hey thanks for the giveaway--would like the patterns if I get so lucky. HA
I would love to have envelope number one. Anything I won't use will find a good home at my guild.
I totally understand. I solved my problem by increasing the stitch width to 1/2 instead of 1/4. By doing that it made all my points match up. I would love either package.
I feel your pain with the flying geese. Have a fabulous weekend! I'd love envelope # 1.
I WAS thinking of switching to decaf coffee. What was I thinking? Thanks for taking one for the team! I would be happy with either package.
Julie @ The Crafty Quilter
I would love to win package #1. It looks like there are some Schnibbles patterns in there and I have been wanting some of them to try out. They are really hard to find around here!
So sorry you sewed things wrong. Is there any way you can salvage the pieces and make your own pattern with them?
Sandy A
Sorry to hear your mistake. You are so kind , what a great giveaway. they both sound great, but I will have to choose
1 Thankyou.
what a great idea! thanks for the chance. I would love envelope #2!
qlt7scrap at gmail dot com
Hi!!! If I go decaf I get a headache and stress out!!!! Not fun!!! I have done very little applique but it would be fun to have a project to work on!!!! Hope you get good karma!!!! Number 2 for me!!!!
Envelope #2 please. Sorry about your blooper. Must be something in the air...you are the third or fourth blogger this week that almost the same thing happened to. I am sure you will put the bloopers to good use somewhere though. Thanks for the chance!
So sorry about your mistake! My choice would be envelope #1.
Oh that stinks about your mistake. If anything else happens switch to DARK Coffee!!! lol
Thanks for the chance at Envelope #1!!!
I know you'll be able to use those other flying geese somewhere in something beautiful. I'll choose #1 since there is sharing involved in that one! I've never had a Schnibbles pattern and I see one of those peaking out of the envelope. Thanks for the chance to win and share with others!
I'd hate to have to count the number of times that I have had to buy more fabrics because of something stupid that I did.
I'd choose #1.
So sorry that happened. What a wonderful giveaway. I would honestly be happy with either one if I was lucky enough to win.
A very nice Giveaway, i will vode for number 2
Happy Good friday message
I'm so sorry you had a cutting error -- it happens to all of us. Thanks for the giveaway! I love patterns, so would choose option #1, if I win.
k(dot)castanette(at)hotmail(dot)com
Don't ya just hate it when something like that happens. But that builds character, so we learn from our errors and move on. I have a wall hanging that says a mistake is just another way of doing things. I would love number 1. Thank you for the great give away.
Sometimes it's hard to trust my instincts that something is going on when I can't put my finger on it. It always hurts a bit!
Thank you for hosting such a generous giveaway - Option 1 gets my vote!
Option #2 would be a dream come true. (My 50th birthday is Sunday, so I may wish on way too many candles for this giveaway!)
I think we can all relate to your "oh my gosh, what have I done?" moment. Someday you'll probably turn those mistaken geese into something very cute, a project that will make someone very happy.
I chuckle only because it didn't happen to me...this time!
Thanks so much for the nice giveaway. I love McKenna Ryan's stuff so I'd go for package #2. :)
Wonderful giveaway ! I vote for #2 for a good friend and agree to pay extra shipping. Sorry for your mistake :(
Awesome giveaway. I would be happy with either one. So I were to win, you should pick. You could discover a new block with that flying geese...something different. Bpfrimmer@yahoo
Package #2 please! I like her work! I know what you mean about the cutting. I tried my first pattern last month and I screwed up in some areas when I was too tired. I reworked it with what fabric I had and I loved it! You never know sometimes. Good luck on yours and I hope you get some caffeine! I tried to give it up once, it was not a good decision! Thanks for the giveaway!
tdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com
Envelope 1.
What an annoyance for you, I'm sure you can use the incorrect units for something else.
Oooops!
#1 please!
It's a good thing you caught it before you start piecing all the blocks together. I did that once and had to rip it apart. Thank goodness it was only a small table runner. I love the Star Blossom pattern. Can't wait to see your finished quilt.
At least you only got to the 2nd block before you realized your mistake. We've all been there!! Frustrating, but definitely a learning experience!!
Would love Envelope #1 Pattern Assortment!! Thanks for the chance to win!!
Poor you! I hate when I cut something wrong mostly the project then goes in the ufo pile.
I love patterns so please count me in with #1!
Have a great weekend and a big cup of coffee (with caffein,-), Hildy
Thanks for such a generous giveaway. I would choose envelope #2.
Wow! What a giveaway!! I would love to win option #1.....thanks for a chance to win!!
I would be happy with either envelope. Happy to pay postage seeing as I'm in Australia.
lyn.robyn.smith@gmail.com
I started doing de-caf a long time ago and now if I have caffeine in the evening, I am awake most of the night. Maybe Miss Cupcake will go slow and wait on you????? I would love to win the patterns.
Have a good day anyway. Thanks for the give away. #1 please. Kristikay@spratt.net
I know I have made the same kind of mistake a number of times. I have a flat spot on my forehead from all the times I hit my palm there when I realize the mistake I made! I would be interested in the patterns.
I spent time reverse sewing on a project that I couldn't get more fabric for. It's so frustrating because I thought I was making progress. It all works out in the end. I would love to check out some new patterns in #1 envelope. Thanks!
I have made those mistakes. They sit in a box o be used someday in a scrappy quilt.
THANk YOU for sharing....I would love to have packet #2. Have always admired her, but have never committed to 1 of her quilts. A new grandson in 2014 would probably love to get this farm quilt one day!
Ruth in FL
Very interesting blog and website.
Thanks packet # 1
What a wonderful healing gesture. You must be so frustrated-been there a number of times. Quilting is also healing! I'd love to receive env. 1. Ryan is a thought but only fleeting.
Thanks for the chance to win - gotta love those cows packet #2.
Thanks so much for sharing. i would love package # 2...
Ah, I think we've all done something like that at least once. Hopefully you'll be able to use the geese for another project. Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway, pattens would be so nice.
You're so generous, thank you for the offerings. I choose #1 because I see several Miss Rosie's patterns. I am late to the MRQC dance and am building up my collection. Thanks!
I would love to have #1 - the patterns - since it looks like some of the schnibbles (?) patterns. I watch the parade every month but have never participated. Thanks for the opportunity. PS Love your blog, read each and every one, quietly of course! lol
That is so generous of you. I would love the 1st envelope. Thanks so much. Hugs
I would love to win envelope #1...thanks for your generousity!
I would love to sift through envelope #1 and pass on what I wouldn't use! Thanks so much!
Bummer about your cutting error but I think it's safe to say that more of us have been there than we care to admit. Good luck with round 2. As for the giveaway, envelope #1 sounds like it would be lots of fun to open - thanks!
So sorry to hear about your error in making your quilt. I think I would like to be entered into giveaway #2. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Dang, sorry that happened. I would love to win #1. Thanks for the chance to win. Have a great weekend.
Mary
Thanks for such a generous give away. Hopefully you can use the oops in another project. Me - I would choose the patterns. Just the Cindy Lou Who would be enough, have been wanting that one! Thanks again.
While I love applique, I think right now some new patterns would be great. Enough for me to share with my quilt group! Number 1 please.
I would like either one! Great giveaway, thanks for the chance.
Envelope #1...I like surprises!
Hi Sinta!
I started a full time job in December, which means Schnibbles are about the best type of quilts to make these day with my limited time!
And some of the ladies I work with want to try making a very small quilt because I've talked about my passion for it.
If I won the envelope full of Schnibbles, I would be handing them out to whomever wanted to jump in and become a quilter.
Thanks for the chance to win!
You aren't the only one to do something like that. Stuff happens!
However, you are very kind to turn it into a giveaway.
I've made equally crazy blunders--you are not alone! I would love to be in the running for box 1--thanks for the chance!
What a generous giveaway # 1 please
Thanks for a chance !
I would love the pattern assortment, thanks for chance at such a generous giveaway..
diannemitzel1@hotmail.com
I don't know how on earth you do it? Getting up in the wee hours of the morning to sew! I am not worthy!!!
xo Kris
Big (and costly) mistakes are the worst. I'm glad you were able to order more fabric. My fear is making a mistake on an "aging" project and not being able to get more fabric. I'll pick package #1. Thanks so much for the chance at the giveaway!
Oh no Sinta! :-o I have done that, but I usually make one block before cutting everything, so I caught my error pretty quickly. I'm so sorry you didn't! Love your giveaway envelopes and I would be thrilled to win either. I grew up on a farm in the midwest, so that might have just a tad more appeal right now. Hope today is a great sew-day for you!
Good luck with the new project. Don't throw those wrong blocks away, they could become the best part of another quilt!
Envolope 1 sounds like a bag full of ideas. Something in there might jump start my creative flow.
Thank you for the chance to win!
How generous of you! If I were lucky enough to be the chosen one, I would choose Door #1! Thanks!
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway. I love reading your blog, it is so motivational. I would love either of the giveaways. Thanks, Winona
Still having trouble getting to your comment form, but persistence pays off. I would love to win the BOM envelope -- have looked at her work often but never had the moolah to sign up! Fun quilts, all of hers.
Hope you can find another way to use the geese! And no, you're not alone in this!!! If I was lucky enough to win I would choose nr 1. Thanks!
I'm so sorry to hear of you "oops"! How frustrating!!! I hope the new fabric arrives quickly and your sewing on the new geese goes even quicker!!! And I have many patterns that I still need to get to, but the package #2 would be wonderful if I were to win: I've "oohed" and "aahed" over that pattern many times! Thanks! Hugs, H in Healdsburg
So annoying when we're flying along and find out it's all wrong! I have loved that Mckenna Ryan pattern for years!
I know how you felt on realizing you had done them wrong. Not a good feeling!
Ooops! I forgot to say I would love the assorted patterns!
The assorted patterns sounds brilliant! I do love a pattern (or two)!!!
I vote for the patterns! I just saw Elton John in concert last week. Have a good weekend
Wow, nice giveaway. :)
I vote for envelope 1.
Have a great week!
I love John Denver!!
I vote for envelope #1! Thanks for the chance to win!
Nice give-away and who wouldn't want to participate in this....so, I vote for envelope #1 and thanks .
Also sorry to hear about your project mishap....hope it can be salvaged and used perhaps somewhere else. Good luck with them.
I love John Denver, too!
I vote for Envelope #1, but either would be swell!
glad to see you're in the oops club too! For the giveaway I would love to win package #2. Thanks for the chance!
What a great giveaway. I would love the packet of patterns as I love your taste in all things quilty!!
Oh......goodness I would so love envelope 2..I have admired that BOM from afar for a long time.....What an amazing gift.
I would love envelope #1. Thanks for the giveaway!
Oops! Glad its not just me - I'm sure you re clever enough to come up with a fabulous new use for the wrong pieces. I'd like to be in the draw for No. 2 please.
Oh my. Don't you just get a sick feeling in your stomach when you realize that oops moment? But I bet you will find a project for the oops too. Love your blog and all your wonderful projects and photos. #1 sounds wonderful!
Jees, I hate Flying Geese to begin with, never mind when I do them backwards! I've always wanted to try a mcKenna pattern;)
Oh no about the flying geese and I thought you where going to give those away, either prize sounds awesome, Thanks.
Oh dear....bloopers are not fun. Been there, and sad to say on more than one occasion. But im sure in no time we will see the results of it on your blog and it will be lovely.....how generous of you to have a giveaway. Thanx
I would love Envelope #2 please. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does things like that. :-(. Thanks for the chance to win.
So sorry about the cutting error. Been there done that. Thanks for the giveaway, I would love to win Envelope #1.
Great giveaway. I like option #1. Don't feel alone as we have all at one time cut something backwards and that was with caffine....lol Have a wonderful week.
Whoa such pretty patterns! That's so generous of you. When is earth day? I am not very aware of these special days that don't show up on the calendar, it's nice to be reminded :)
I can't decide between 1 or 2 so I'd be soooo grateful if you can just decide for me ;)
looks like some good patterns, thanks
I bet all of us have flubbed up like using the incorrect fabric placement in a block. Some of the blogs show beautiful quilts that just seem to automagically appear - no boo-boos, no ripping, just smooth sailing. I like my favorite quilt tool is my seam ripper. Of course, my brother made it for me. Naturally, there are somethings that are just too astronomical to rip. I agree time to buy fabric, fabric, and fabric. You are very generous to have two such lovely giveaways. Either one is a gem. I like the idea of taking what you like, adding to the envelope, and having another giveaway. Have a blessed day. Thanks for blogging.
Oh, oh, I vote for envelope #1 ... the patterns. donnanb@gmail.com
Thanks for the giveaway! I would like #2. sarah@forrussia.org
Your reverse flying geese must be frustrating, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with them! (I have several pouches made with mistakes :) And what a good idea to send some good karma into the world. I love to applique, so #2 would be delightful. Thanks for the giveaway and for your inspiring blog!
What's that saying... measure twice, cut once?! Or how about READing the instructions carefully and thoroughly??!! I am guilty of both (more times than I want to admit) grrrr! Thanks for your generous giveaways #2 appeals to me!!
Sorry about your problem. If it's any consolation, every quilter has been there. I like your #2 giveaway. It looks a little difficult but worth the effort.
Ah, mistakes, they pop up when you least expect and always when least convenient. I would love Envelope #2 with Storybrook Farm, that quilt is beautiful.
I would be very happy with either. If I must choose, I'd pick the Block of the month. Thanks for the chance to win.
Either one would be wonderful! But if I had to choose, the BOM would be it. :)
craftyccain@gmail.com
I couldn't go completely caffeine free any time soon! I limit myself on the amount of caffeine I consume, but I need just a "little" to keep me going! I would love #1. Thanks for the chance to win!
I have done an oops or 2 myself. Then I stick it away until I decide what to do with it. I would vote for #1.
I make ooops all the time, you are not alone! I would choose for number 1.
I would take #1 because chances are I would never finish Storybook Farm. It is beautiful but I would get half way through and be too overwhelmed. Her work is wonderful to look at but a little hard for me. I think I am a better piecer and simple applique. I just hide the oops and move forward.
Ouch...that would hurt. I am currently working with 2 other quilters on a raffle quilt. Have spent last 2 days redoing the border which is flying geese and square in a square. 3 different machines, cutters and ages of quilters!
Would love to win something the day before my B-Day!
Great giveaway I would choose No. 1
What a generous giveaway! I would prefer the patterns. Thanks!
Sounds like me early in the morning, caffeine or not, I'd like no.1
Oh shoot! Don't you just hate it when that happens! Hopefully your giveaway will mean good piecing karma this next week. (And I need to be destashing myself, to don't enter me in the giveaway! ;-D)
Oh I know all about oops. I'm doing a BOM with my quilt guild and now have pieces made that I hope can be used somewhere in the rest of the blocks. Otherwise I might be making another mug rug. lol I would choose number 1 but would also be happy with number 2.
Mistakes are no fun, but sometimes they inspire a new design. I'd be okay with either giveaway, they are both great! Thanks for the chance to win.
We all make mistakes, that's why we have seam rippers. Would love to win either one.
Yeah, we've all had an oops like yours! I would choose giveaway #2, thanks for the chance.
Yes to the "real" Tea and no to de-caf! :) Good strong, tea is the best way to begin a sewing project!!! :) I've fallen head over heels for those cute little piggies...#2 would be my choice.
Now, time for tea...
I would love to win number 1. Thanks for this opportunity.
Cheryl
Look on the bright side, now you have loads of extra flying geese to play with to make another quilt! I'd love the patterns, I don't have a blog to do a giveaway for any I don't want, but I could give them to my local quilt guild to use instead. Is the giveaway is open internationally? I'm in the UK.
jen dot barnard at btinternet dot com
I would love the #1 Pattern Assortment. Thanks,
Kathy Davis
kdavis1@centurytel.net
It happens to all of us. I bet you could come up with a pretty design with the ones that will not work.
I would love to win #1 and if I did I would have another giveaway if there were patterns I might not use. Hope your sewing goes much better today.
Well, I am in the same boat. I am having to unpick several blocks in a quilt because I don't like the way they look and not lining up right. I make a new block and then undue one of the wrong blocks. This could take a while! It's all about the process right? Actually I am ok with it because I like them so much better once redone. I have come a long way in the few years it's been since I started this project. No wonder it got put away, but the fig tree fabric is too pretty to waste. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway of patterns. Good idea to take a few, add a few and pass on.
It's so difficult to choose!!! How about whichever one the first winner doesn't want.
I can't blame my problem on decaf tea, but on trying to watch TV while I cut fabric and quilt and I cut up an entire yard and a half of fabric before I realized I cut the strips too small! Off to buy more if I can find it, or something similar! Thanks for the chance to win!
I'm so sorry about your oops but you're not alone that's for sure. I'm always making mistakes! What a great giveaway! I would appreciate receiving either one so whichever one is left is fine with me! Thanks so much for the super giveaway! Hope things go more smoothly for you!
Happy quilting,
Dawn

Pack #1 sounds wonderful! Thanks!!
I'd love to try #2. Thanks for the chance to win! VermontPines at aol dot com
Don't know if I have the skills, but would love #2. We have a homestead and this project speaks to me! :)
I haven't had a quilting oops yet but I've oh so many in counted cross stitch. Many more than I want to count. Just give me time for a quilt oops. I would love to have the pattern package. Such a grand and wonderful giveaway. You are so generous. Thanks for the chance and choice.

Wow- good for you for continuing on and not quitting!! I would like either giveaway - I'm not picky.
What a great thing to do on "tax day". I have wanted to do the Storybook Farm, but never got around to buying it...maybe this will be my reward for waiting.
I would love the Storybrook Farm as a first choice. I'd like the other one too, but do have several patterns already.
Sorry for your sewing troubles but at least you can get more fabric and make it right. I choose #1. Thanks for the giveaway.
Sorry for the troubles and I think many of us can relate! I like both - I would love to do some applique so I would choose #2 first! thank you for being so generous!
Thanks for sharing with us about your frustrations. There are times when I think I am the only distracted quilter. Please consider me for pkg #1, the patterns! Thanks
Sounds like a long day in your house. Everywhere I've turned today my 18m and 4yr old have left a path of destruction. Tomorrow is a brand new day, hopefully with caffeine. I would like to be in the hat for number 1 please. hayleymstephens at gmail dot com
don't think of it as a mistake, think of it as making a second, bonus quilt with the colours the other way!! What a generous give away, I'd love to win envelope #1 as i have some fabric I'm searching for a pattern for.
I think I'm a little late, but just if I'm not.. Envelope #1 Pattern Assortment. Love Patterns!
I would love to try #2. I need to mix up my quilting a little bit. Thanks for the chance!
OOH! I would love number 1!!! Thanks for the chance to win!! ksmith8@emich.edu
hope I'm not too late, #2
Patterns! What fun to play with!
I would like #1 always love new patterns,I dont know about a giveaway since i am not computer savvy but i share among my stitching group and guild. It is always fun to se what someone else has thanks for the chance to win
What a great idea for a giveaway! I would vote for #1.
I'd love to win Envelope #1 - what a great giveaway!
Love your blog. My vote is number 1.
Love your blog. Choose number 1.
I would like to be put in the running for the envelope with all the patterns. Thank you for generous giveaway even if I don't win.
I would really love to be able to receive envelope behind door # 1 filled with patterns!
