Out of the Sewing Room and Into the Kitchen!

One of my favorite things is my Pioneer Woman
It makes me smile just seeing it on the counter in my kitchen!

Between my DDIL and myself...
we have the entire collection of Ree's cookbooks.

So, at Christmas we vowed to
get together once a week in
2016 and plow through the recipes.
Tonight will be Week 4 for us.

We have grown from the four of us  (plus grand children)
to six, plus.

We each take a recipe...
one person makes the main dish, someone makes the
side dishes and someone makes the dessert.
The first week we had the
Pork Chops with Wine and Roasted Garlic
Roasted Carrots with Vinaigrette
and Stove Top Mashed Potatoes.

Tonight... Chicken Marsala
Peas and Carrots
Risotto
and
made from scratch... Vanilla Pudding!

Each and every recipe has been amazing!
I am making notes on each of the pages...
and there isn't one that I wouldn't make again...
and I wouldn't change any of the recipes either.

You can go to her site for fun recipes too.

I have been spending a lot of time in the kitchen lately!
I did that test run on Saturday for
my soon to be DIL's birthday/wedding cake.

She turned 30! Woohoo!
My cake was basically one section of what will be the wedding cake...
in April.

Here is what we are really aiming for:

I had "too much" frosting on the test cake.
I have to remember that they call it a Naked Cake for a reason! lol
So, from now until the middle of April I will making layers of
sections and freezing the cake. I
blogged about it last week but I just wanted to talk out my plan to
"divide and conquer"!

These are some more of the Pioneer Woman
dish collection.

I think I am obsessed!

What a fabulous idea for the cookbook, and making the recipes! I love that! I think I will see if anyone around here wants to do that too.
Your cake turned out beautiful!
I also love the PW butter dish. I can't find one yet. But I have four plates, several bowls, and mugs, and of course, I love the cast iron pot. I got the aqua!
Loved this post!

We used to do the same with the Taste of Home magazine. Mom, my sister and I. But what made it extra fun was one would take the Entrée and the other 2 would just pick anything... without telling each other what it would be until we got together. Lots of fun guessing what the other person was going to pick after going thru each new issue

Love the post today, even if it isn't quilting. I haven't seen those dishes, but I love them already - will need to go in search on the internet now... Your cakes look delicious - I would have suggested this idea to my soon-to-be-married brother, but they have already decided on a cupcake tower instead.

I love Ree and her recipes. I make several of them regularly, especially Penne a la Betsy, and Chicken Spaghetti. Her twice baked potatoes are to die for. Anyway, I knew about her cute stuff that's available, but I'm not a fan of the store... Then, just before Christmas, I had a cookie baking day with my nieces. I was cleaning up and my very favorite, red batterbowl (with handle) that I got from Gooseberry Patch years ago, broke! I was crushed. But I remembered: Ree had a really cute one. It took visits to three of those stores before I found one! It is red and turquoise and so cute.

Love those Pioneer Woman dishes! Trying out the recipes together sounds like a fun and happy gathering! Your first try at a naked cake is awesome! I'm thinking the "official" cake is going to be perfection!

I love Ree's books too! I've made probably half of the recipes in Dinnertime and almost everything has been perfect. I gotta confess that I'm a little obsessed with the Quick Mac n Cheese and the mustard chicken. I've got chicken shredded and pie crust made, ready to assemble into pot pies. And the chocolate and caramel sauces are unbelievable.
