Sweet Little Pincushions & more

I blogged about the spa bags I made last week and there was some interest in the correct (smile) name of the magazine I used. Nicole at Sister's Choice let me know that she found it ON SALE at the Fat Quarter Shop. So if you are interested, you can order it through there.

I made some progress on my son's quilt. I think I'm about half way there! Boy it's a challenge to go back and try to remember what you were doing... I hate it when I leave a project mid-stream. I do really like the colors of the Diwabo fabrics. I think they are soothing and give the blocks a masculine look. Don't you?
My fun little project was the little pincushion "Tuffets" (pattern by Miss Rosie's). If you ever wanted to do a selvage edge project... but without the pain, try it with this small project. I am ready to go into my stash and start cutting off the selvages so I can make more! It was especially easy to use the edges from the "Moda Scrap Bags" since they are all uneven and need to be straightened up anyway.
I also helped Jill make some lavendar eye pillows. She needed to make
them for baby shower gifts.
The mom-to-be just had a birthday over the weekend... and I was elected to "get/break" into her house while Todd and Jill took her out to dinner. Jill and I had filled up a duvet with balloons we had blown up and I emptied it in her house while they were away. She was so surprised! (wish I had a picture) It was nice because her husband is also up in Alaska fighting fires with my other son. At least she didn't have to spend her 25th b-day alone.

Friday Confessions

Okay, I confess that Friday's are not just Friday's to me. I call it Chai Friday!
This is Becky and guess where she works? You've got it! After I get to work on Friday mornings my coworker volunteers me to go back out and get Chai Latte's for us. Ummm! Now there is one alteration to this. Sometimes we have been known to make it Chai Thursday... because it's so nice to combine a latte with "landscaper boys" day!

They come and they go...
This is one of our boys, Tauren, who was thinking he was going to have a day off. But as it turns out his Hotshot crew is now on a plane to Alaska to fight one of the fires that are burning up there. I am really excited for him. The fun part of his job is to be able to go to amazing places! Alaska!
What could be more beautiful?
Teague, the one on the left, had to go back to Chico this week. Vacation time was over. Jill and Todd have to go back to Livermore Sunday. It's like a mass exodus!
I will be missing all of them:(

As for the weekend: I will be home looking out my window at this view. I have some projects to work on for the Charming Girls Quilt Club. I hope I am productive!

But for tonight we are having Todd, Jill and Jill's parents over for dinner. This is a photo (from Bon Appetite) of the cake I made this morning before I went to work. I wish I could just skip dinner and just have the cake... but maybe Jill's parents would get the wrong impression of me!LOL... it is way too late for that!

Have a great weekend Blogetts!

Spa Bags & What's New In The Line Up

I'm back... and I have my pictures now. I didn't get photos of the spa bags and things I sent out but I do have photos from the magazines that I got the pattern from, so I can show you that. The spa bag came out again recently in a special publication. I think it was called Bags, Purses and Pillows. Something like that anyway. So here it is and you just have to
imagine it in the Shangra-la fabrics.

Here is a picture of it from the original publication it came out of.
This is the neck wrap filled with lavender and rice. It's really soothing! I hope I am redeemed for not getting pics of the ones I actually made:)

Now, for the August Charming Girls Quilt Club "commit to finish" projects:
First on my list is a pincushion fro Miss Rosie! I am excited to make this so that will be an easy one (or two).

This is a quilt that I started for #1 son... the one that just was home visiting. I need to get this done big time. He's been waiting... but it hasn't been that long yet! The pattern is called Bouillabaisse. I have seen it made up in several colorways and they all look great. I wanted to use the Diawabo fabrics for his.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed to get my Confetti Cake quilt finished off also. (I slipped in my new French General pincushion). Now, I know you haven't seen the finished July project yet but that one will be done by the end of this month also. So Kelly, here they are... piece of cake! (confetti cake?)

Thanks for visiting!

Long Weekends Are A Good Thing

I am back from my busy 4 day weekend! But with no pictures to show for it!
I did a fair share of running around, going to the lake, cooking & playing board games with the kids. It's been so nice! A girl can get use to having l-o-n-g weekends. Ya know what I mean?
My first disappointment was when I realized that I mailed off the very late birthday presents I made for Heidi and Becky without taking a picture to show you first.
I am so sad because they were really really cute!
I had made spa bags out of Shangra-la fabrics and matching lavender wraps to heat up and put around your neck in coordinating Shangra-la fabrics. I embellished the spa bags with some vintage white buttons too. I have made several of these in the past. In fact I think that Miss Punkie Pie had been the recipient of these goodies from me in the past. She was my "Dolka Dot" swap partner a year or so ago.
(I also made a couple of travel pillow/pillow cases and matching luggage tags for them but I am going to save those for another gift giving.)
My second discovery that I actually left my camera behind today, so if I wanted to take a picture of the spa bags I couldn't have! Dang, dang, dang it!
I
Well, I will be armed with my camera tomorrow for sure. I know that I need to show what is next on my to do list for the Charmimg Girls Quilt Club... even though I didn't make the deadline for July's project... that's alright because I can count it in the August "finishes".
