A Few of My Favorite Things

One of the great things about the Quilting in the Garden show last weekend...

was being at the nursery itself! 

But aside from playing...

I had to get busy with my Spider blocks for my retreat coming up next month.

It's just a few weeks away and a Spider Web string quilt is

one of the  projects! 

So I am starting on my sample.

I really have a hard time with "string" quilts...

And in order to keep myself from going insane I decided to

have a controlled pallet for my quilt.

Although I really like the opportunity that this blocks gives you for using up your scraps...

I just need to have an order to my kayos. If that makes sense?

I finally got my first Betsy's Closet block made and have the next one

in the hoop! I try to work on it during my lunch hour during the week, but 

I think I need a new plan... because I need to get these done much faster...

some people have like 5 out of the 9 done already! 

Okay, back to the nursery...

I love flowers!

Did I ever tell you that I use to work as a florist when I was younger?

It was so much fun. 

That is the time period when I wore vintage clothes and  yes, hats too!

Loved it!

 Here is a fun quilt at In Between Stitches Quilt shop in Livermore.

I believe the pattern is from Anaka's Treasures, Living Large II booklet.

 okay, just a little more eye candy...

The Traveling Mannequin

Kind of like a Where's Waldo...

There she is in a wonderful quilt shop...

on a weekend excursion!

I escaped and went to Alden Nursery for the

Quilting in the Garden quilt show over the weekend 

This is at In Between Stitches... where I get an adrenaline rush 

as I walk through the front door and take my first breath of

fresh off the bolt fabric! Yum!

I still managed to get in some BOM Rehab time!

and got this one nearly ready to go.

This is Sparkle by Fig Tree & Co. 

(sorry for the super crummy photo)

I love this pattern! I used some fat quarters that I had handy although the 

pattern calls for a layer cake which would be just great too.

I just need to find some Parisville for the outside border and she is done!

A Baker's Dozen

The end of my Summer of Fun!

It's time to wrap it up.

There was a whole lot of things that were on my list to start with.

And the list kept on getting revised!

Here is the project list I started with:

What I actually did finish was...

1. Mystery BOM

2. A Schnibbles: Doc 

3. Another Schnibbles: Dimestore

4. A Little Bites pattern: Speck

5. Spools by Thimble Blossoms

6. Ivy League: for the book tour of

Geared For Guys Remix! By Emily Herrick

7. A special assignment project for Fat Quarter Shop...

8:  Another Schnibbles: Hot Cross

9. Yoyoville is nearly finished by not done yet!

I was going to angle the corners on the border of the quilt but the pattern calls for 

a little block... here is a photo of the block. I think I will go back and add the

block in the corner. I think it looks better, don't you?

10. Jelly roll project: not finished.

11. Boardwalk: finished

12. Le Petit: FINISHED! I love this one made with Blueberry crumb Cake!

13. I made another special assignment project but I can't show that one yet.

That's my baker's dozen for the Summer of Fun!

That's depressing!

BOM REHAB- My Weekend Show and Tell

It feels good to be making progress and finishing this block of the month project.

I have been able to finish 2 other block of the month's that had been abandoned, work on this

one by Bunny Hill, and keep up to date with a current Fat Quarter Shop BOM program.

That's a lot of progress for some things that have been sitting in my closet, neglected, for a

very long time! 

I have the stitching done on 4 of these blocks now! I am almost half way there.

There is some embroidery embellishment and some buttons that I will be adding also,

but I will have this done and ready to hang by the first of October! 

I am excited about that!

I did manage to finish making the last of my yoyo's for Yoyoville,

another Bunny Hill project... 

I discovered when I got to the outside border, that I had not made the 3 dozen 

yoyo's that I needed! Darn! 

I also decided to work on another project yesterday...

It's by Fig Tree & Co.

These blocks are about 22" and I couldn't believe how fast that they

went together! 

I am working on the sashing right now... but this could be completed by the

end of the week! I love this star pattern... it's called Sparkle!

Here is the pattern and a photo of the cover quilt:

I could see making this one again... as soon as I get my hands on some of this fabric!

I used Parisville. The pattern called for a layer cake but I had 

9 fat quarters of the Tula Pink fabric

and it worked perfectly.

Today Is My Day...

My polka dot block and a little giveaway!

I am really excited to participate in the Dots On Dots blog hop!

I love polka dots, and I suspect you do too!

I even wear polka dot sunglasses!

I have a block to share with you and some of the quilts I have made that I incorporated 

dots into...

I made a special version of a flower block with a 3-D center.

If you would like to make one here is what you will need:

4- 6 1/2" squares for flower petals (black and white polka dots)

4- 3 1/2" squares and 4- 2 1/2" squares (dark blue dots) for  background

4- 4 1/2" sq.'s folded twice to make the flower centers (green polka dot)

Directions: place a 3 1/2" blue square on left corner of 6 1/2" square and sew across the diagonal;

do that again on other 6 1/2"  sq.'s. Then take the 2 1/2" sq.s and place on the right top corner of the 6 1/2" sq. & sew across on the diagonal. Cut away excess behind the diagonal where you stitched.

Next: take your flower centers that you folded twice to make the "prarie points" and sew those 

within the seam of each two "petals" as you sew them together.

Be sure to copy placement of the squares like in the photo.

Repeat with the last two squares and there you have your flower block.

It measures 12.5 inches.

I modeled the block after this block by Quilt Soup. But I needed it larger and I changed the center 

(and the petals) for a little extra pizazz!

big polka dots!

This one is Picnic from Scrap Basket Sensations book and Sweetwater fabrics.

And here are more polka dots used as the setting triangles in a Fig Tree pattern called

Figgy Pudding.

And lastly...

here is my sweet little Dresden with a few polka dots of Pam Kitty Morning fabric
 used for the petals!

Flowers and polka dots just seem to go together!
