Quilt Show: Vendors!!!

A quilt show has to include some shopping...

so I thought I would share a little glimpse of what followed me home.

First indulgence:

Patterns...

Had. To. Have. It!

A few other things too. 

Isn't she sweet? 

The idea is to make it for my grand daughter...

but I'm pretty slow at that. I haven't even made the shopping cart cover yet!

*guilt*

I had to get this pattern too... it's for that other side of me.

It was by Joe and Thimble Creek. I think it would make a good red and white quilt also.

 And then there was a little bit of fabric indulgence!

Red Door Quilting had a cute sample using these fabrics (and some others)

 but I didn't really want the whole kit. So with a little bit 

of looking I found that they had little bundles of fat quarters that

were the same as in the kit. 

 Then there was the Quilt Soup and the Gingham Girls booths...

What could I say? 

Yes, please!

And then there was this...

Sa-weet! I have never tried one of their patterns before...

I am anxious to give it a test drive!

Quilts~ Naturally

I wanted to show you some of the photos I took while I was at the 

Road to California.

I am always amazed at the talent of other quilters...  and very humbled also!

The quilts that are nature scapes are beautiful.

The border on this one is pleated. 

The squirrel looks lifelike here! Like it actually has fur!

This was a nice one. 

A Monet influenced art work.

Gorgeous!

Do you see their reflection in the water?

This one is beautiful... I have a certain fondness for

pine trees.

I have a fondness for sea turtles as well! 

These are quilts that I really enjoy but I never would attempt.

It's a whole other ball game for me! I quilt because I can't paint!

And I need straight lines please!!!

Never-the-less, I can appreciate the creativity and the labor of love

in each and every one of these.

I will show some other traditional quilts tomorrow.

BOM Rehab: Something New

I was lucky enough to go to the Road to California over the weekend.

But one morning my friend and I took a little side trip down to Temecula Quilt Co.

I feel like I have a split personality in quilting style.

I love Shabby Chic but I also have a love for Turn of the Century also.

So, some of these little projects can keep my happy while I am more focused 

on my Shabby side!

Yesterday I read their blog...

Did you know that Temecula Quilt Co. is hosing a sew along!

I was on that in a heartbeat!

So, here is my 5 blocks for part I. 

I will share photos from the Quilt Show tomorrow...

but here are some from the Temecula Quilt Shop that I took.

Mid Week Mosaic

I am heading out on the Road to California!

I know, I actually already do live in California...

But I'm talking about the Quilt Show down in Southern California.

I use to go every year... but haven't been able to attend for a few years now.

That's why I am so excited to be going!

It's an amazing quilt show... and okay, lots of fun, and 

great vendors are there too!

I love seeing all the amazing different types of quilts.

Velda Newman's quilts are in the above photo.

I was able to see her once and her amazing quilts are super sized...

much like the Georgia O'Keeffe of quilting! 

You can see the tops of the heads of an audience viewing her

quilts... that gives you an idea of how large it is. All of the quilts are like that..

I hope to take lots of photos of quilts like these...

and the other inspiring quilts... that I think I might

be able to make!

(did I mention doing a little bit of shopping too)?

This One or That One?

I think I found a pattern for Thelma's Blogger's Choice collection
of fabrics!

Of course you were going to see red and white!!! 

February+Thelma... yes, red and white... the only choice!

Do you remember when I posted this pattern as one I was thinking about using?

I think it would be great with Thelma's collection!

This was my original pick...

Now I just need to decide between this one or

that one!

I think everyone needs a red and white quilt in their collection... at least one!

Any Minute Now!

This collection is going to be released any minute now I'm sure!!!

                                                  

I'm excited about is this wonderful fabric collection that I 

got to pick for the Fat Quarter Shop! It was so exciting to be asked to pull

together a little group of fabrics... and since I had the opportunity, I had to 

go Shabby Chic style. 

There is some Riley Blake fabrics... like:

I have been pondering this one for a month... 

and trying to visualize it in a soft palette.

It's a new Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. pattern...

It's called Marguerite. 

This Spin Cycle pattern is one that I have been wanting to make

(I found this one made up by Trish on Notes of Sincerity blog)

But then I like this pattern too...

But I like the boldness of the fabrics  like it shows

and then I remembered a pattern I had that was designed by Kelly Guy at

Cotton Charm quilts.... called Stargazers!

This was made up by her out of a Brenda Riddle collection...

so  I think the stars are aligned and  this pattern is the winner.

Don't you think Stars and Flying Geese are a great combination?

BOM REHAB: WHERE YOU THERE TOO?

Yeah! It's Monday!

I really don't know why that is exciting...

other thank it's BOM Rehab time!

For some people they get today off from work for a holiday.

That would be exciting... but I'm not one of those people.

I do have something to show for BOM Rehab though!

These are my Betsy's Closet embroideries.

I am just finishing up my 5th one!

It has been a slow process... but I am making progress.

That is the important part.

This Week, This Weekend!

 I meant to post about how I was dedicating January  to 

finishing up some overdue blocks for my Bee and

bindings... and some of those other things stacked up on 

my cutting table that are annoying me.

The lighting wasn't so good this morning but I thought I would take a couple of 

pictures of my Vintage Dishes quilt.

I finished putting on the binding last night...

while watching American Idol.

(I don't know why I still watch it)

 

Here are a couple other quilts that got

binding put on them as well.

And here is another Bee block that got finished and put in the mail this week!

Yeah! Now I am behind only one... which I would be done with... but

I cut it wrong... so I have to re-do it.

I also am working on Pam Buda's weekly blocks.

Goodness, they are small puppies!

(I think the lighting was maybe fine, and this is how 

I was seeing things this morning before my first cup of tea-- Earl Grey, leave the bag in please)!

My idea is to finish at least one UFO each month before starting a new project...

I have high hopes!

I would love to play with this over the weekend.

Back In BOM Rehab! How About You?

I belong to a quilting bee group...

and I have been a very bad bee. So

this month I made a promise to myself... kind of a New Year's resolution.

I am trying to catch up on my blocks.

Here is my first block...

The last couple of blocks I have made for the bee group were

the free form modern quilt blocks...

which for me, were very stressful... nothing "freeing" about it!

So when I saw a paper pieced block... I thought I was saved!

But I was oh so wrong.

This little bugger took me about 4 hours to make.

Every seam stressed me out.

So, when I moved on to the next block

I was elated to see that it was a simple Churn Dash block.

Simple and sweet!

 So I made two!

I just used solid background fabric for the half square triangles.

I didn't want to use the  background fabric provided because I 

was afraid it would look too busy and also the fact that the directional fabric 

would be all wonky.  These blocks are for Trish.

I don't think I ever shared the wonderful pincushion she had made and sent to

me over the holiday's.

Isn't she so cute?

Here is another block I started  for January... for me.

I am using Lakehouse Dolly Dresses panel to make a monthly block.

Probably not as extravagant as this one... but the same idea:

I Love Snowmen

Is this not exquisite?

The pattern is Lollipops by Fig Tree & Co.

I believe this version is called Little Lollies.

The fabric is Blitzen by Basic Grey... it has little snowmen in it...

but no Santa's.

Here it is hanging in the quilt shop.

It's something that can hang all winter long!

When she was deciding on what fabric to use for the center of the block,

I suggested putting yoyo's there. I think it really adds to the 

charm of this quilt!

On another note... (I just want to get this off my chest)

I met up with my quilt circle at lunch time yesterday. We are working on a quilt together for a raffle.

I was in charge of cutting the fabrics for the blocks and yesterday was our day to turn the finished block  in.

As I walked in I overheard them saying...

"she cut them too perfectly, that's what the problem is".

Seriously?
