Envelope Please...And The Winner Is...

I couldn't wait to pick a winner this morning when I got up! I want to thank everyone for entering my giveaway! I am so happy for the response it got and every ones comments on what their favorite treat is for the holidays... some I never would have thought of... but now I might have to try!!! I am still responding back to comments on my Anniversary post... I really appreciated every one of them!

But now... we need to pick a winner...

I was quick enough the other day while driving to get this picture.
At Thanksgiving, a tree is always brought in and put up at the main intersection of our town.

We have 2 signals on our main street... I know, whoohoo!... and the tree becomes the focal point for the holidays. This week there will be several smaller trees put around it and the little kids from the surrounding schools come and decorate each tree for their school.

Then this Saturday evening there will be a tree lighting ceremony along with singing... and hot chocolate! This last Saturday was the tree lighting ceremony at Bass Lake which we didn't attend but our boys were there.

Over the weekend we went to my sister's... they already put up their tree!

I did manage to work a little on my Red & White challenge quilt... which you can see is

vintage pink & white.

I was working on my Schnibbles for tomorrow also... but I can't show you until then!

My 100th Post Giveaway & A Story

What a perfect week for this... not only is it Thanksgiving

but on Thursday it will also be my 13th wedding anniversary!

Now, I wanted to tell you the story that I promised you last month:

This is the story from my friend Kassy

that she told while sharing these tea towels made by her mother.

Kassy wrote:
The story of the spy is a little convoluted!
Anyway, the story goes that an FBI agent came to my grandmother's house
and asked my mom, who was in Junior College, for her help.
They needed proof that a suspected spy, Velva Dickinson,
was sending troop information to Germany through dolls she was selling.
My mom had ordered paper dolls from her.
She also collected stamps and my grandmother
let her keep them in a drawer in her china cabinet.
The FBI needed something typed from the typewriter used by the spy
and mom found an envelope the order came in and it had the typed address!
Later mom saw in the newspaper that she had been arrested.
Also, several years later
the same FBI agent came and thanked mom
and asked if they could keep the envelope.
So that is the story.

The only thing we know about the tea towels is that she made them during WWII!

Who Doesn't Love Julie?

I love musicals. There I said it!

I admit it wholeheartedly!

And this one is my all-time favorite!

The Sound of Music...

On November 16, 1959 the Sound of Music opened on Broadway. That was 50 years ago! (Luckily, I can say that I never saw it on Broadway. )

But I did see it at the movie theater.

I love the story, the characters and the music.

I still fall back on the songs... like when I'm feeling sad...

you know it... and you know you want to sing it...

"these are a few of my favorite things"!

I think it was last year that Moda Lissa had a little contest to make up a song with Moda in it.

I took a stab at it, quickly, and entered... and won!

Just because it's the anniversary of the Sound of Music I'll go ahead and share it with you:

Raindrops on windows and winters with Moda,

Bright colored ric rack and warm cozy flannels,

Stacks of fat quarters all tied up with strings

These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored backgrounds and crisp folded cottons

Doorbells, sleigh bells and packages from United (Notions)

Patterns to play with from Moda’s designers

These are a few of my favorite things

A sewing room filled with fabrics, jelly rolls & charms

Threads that stay on my nose and eyelashes

Silver white winters that melt into springs

These are a few of my favorite things

When the stores close

When the needle breaks

When I'm feeling sad

I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don't feel so bad!

Oh no, wait... that's a different musical!

Monday Already?

Where did the weekend go?

I can't believe that it's Monday already... I still have things I need to get done!

Well, I'll show you how far I got on my quilting... just a little more to do and then the binding can go on.

There was a huge Christmas Boutique with something like 70 vendors.

My friend Patty had a table there, in the library and sold her lavender items.

I got to see lots of people I knew while I was hanging out at Patty's table with her.
Angie had a set-up outside for all of her knitted and crocheted items. I got a couple of little newborn caps for a couple of babies, one was born the 7th and one should be born today!

Then we went out to a wonderful dinner at the place where Todd & Jill will hold their wedding.
We went with Jill's parents.
Then on Sunday we had to go see their new "house purchase".
I will have to tell you a story about this house latter!

But don't you just love the view?!?

A Mulitble Choice Day

I had joined in the Snowball Challenge with Allyson of Fat Cat Quilts and

Nicole of Sister's Choice Quilts.

I am not sure if it was: A: a moment of weakness, B: because I love a challenge or C: I am a glutton for punishment... or their could be a choice D: All of the above.

It's a beautiful scrappy quilt... and did I mention that there are 480 half square triangles.

This is where you pick C, right?

The fun thing is that Allyson has organized us into groups

and we are doing a swap of light fabrics!

So, since today is the deadline to mail out our fabrics... here they are all washed, pressed, bagged up and ready to go into ready for mailing envelopes. Now all I have to do is find some red fabrics and some other whites to add to the bunch!


Fortunately today is Friday the 13th. Unless you are superstitious... then you are busy trying not to walk on cracks in the sidewalk; not walking under a ladder; watching out for black cats and staying away from mirrors... but while you are busy with that I am arriving at the LQS where it's "Fat Quarter Friday"! Which means you buy fat quarters in increments of 13 and they are $1.xx each. Yep, it only happens on Friday the 13th!

Not only that but I ran into the nicest people while I was there, lucky me! These girls are adorable and they have a new friend with them (the one in black). They are showing her the ropes, so to speak!


Here are a few more girls... I asked them to wave, but their arms were full!LOL
I was able to muscle my way in and find some red & white fat quarters...
and a few Diawabos as well.

I have made some progress here on my quilt by Abbey Road.

Here is what 1 lunch hour, 327 safety pins & a Red Bull

can do for you!

Now, all I have to do is quilt & bind it! It will be a shop sample. I do have a deadline to meet.

I just need it done by... Monday? What was I thinking? Please go back to top of post and read choices A through D.

Yeah, I would have to pick that one too!

A Year of Schnibbles Parade #2

Hi Blogettes! Here we are again and Sherri at A Quilting Life and I are sharing the entries to the Parade of Schnibbles! So make sure that you visit both of us and see all the quilts! We had a great turnout of quilts again this month! You guys are good!

I thought I would share with you the definition of a Schnibble as found on Carrie's website.

Schnibble: noun A scrap of fabric; a leftover bit of cloth; a small piece. The word has a German origin and is found primarily in German settlements in the Midwest. From the Dictionary of American Regional English published by the Harvard University Press.

So now let me show you my newest example:

This is Picnic. And this will be our Schnibble for November!!!

... and wouldn't it be nice to have a little picnic before we say goodbye to Autumn altogether?

I love basket blocks and I'm glad that I met this challenge. I used the Panache group that I acquired at Cottage Quilts. The pattern gives you options on 5 different basket blocks... so you can make it more of a sampler, which is like the picture on the cover of the pattern.

I thought I would keep it simple for myself... and kept them all the same...

I wonder what you will do?

2 charm packs, 7/8yd of background and you're good to go!

I hope you have fun with this one... I just love it.
