I've Made It! My 200th Post!

Did I get your attention?

Go ahead and skip to the bottom of the post if
you want to know more now!

A couple of evenings ago I had a class at the LQS.
I got to "guide"  a wonderful group of women in making Due South.
I don't really like to say that I teach a class. Because I didn't make the quilt up and because most of the women in the classes are usually very experienced quilters themselves.
I kind of consider myself a guide, just because I have already made the quilt, I can give some shortcut advise and walk the women through the process so they can think less and have fun more and concentrate on the creative part of the journey.
'Cause girls just wanna have fun!
I had a lot of fun myself and enjoyed the evening a lot. I haven't been doing many classes this year...
sidetracked by the wedding mostly I suppose. I had a class a couple of weeks ago and now this one... and that's all there have been since early spring.

So, the picture at the top of the post is my bouquet of fat quarters to you!
This is my 200th post and since I do a lot of my posting during my "lunch hour",
I wanted to celebrate with flowers (the non perishable kind) and this really fun book that I am loving!
Lunch Bags by Stash Books (C & T). It has patterns for 25 different lunch bags or "green" packaging items.

So here's what you do if you want to be entered into the giveaway:

Leave a comment and tell me your favorite way to spend your lunch time...
or share the name of a favorite lunch recipe.
I will pick a winner on Friday August 27th.

My goal is to make lunch time more fun and start packing my lunch too!

P.S. an extra entry if you can tell me what I refer to myself as in my class.

What a lovely give away! When the weather was nice I would walk on my lunch hour. Not nice out--READ. lol
Love to read.

Happy 200th post, dear "guide."

I worked in an elementary school. The favorite part of lunch was visiting with other adults. I love bringing left-overs from dinner for lunch the next day. DH is a fabulous cook so I'm doubly blessed!

D'Anne said...

Congrats! I love to spend my lunch just chatting with the girls at work.

Sherri said...

Congrats on 200! I just taught a class the other night too...and feel the same way...I'm really just there to share tips and hopefully make their quilt go together more quickly!

I just started a new job this week and haven't had to pack a lunch for about 10 years now! So, I haven't figured out how to fit anything into my lunch hour other than eating lunch at this point. :)

I do plan on making a lunch bag - might be a conversation starter!

Laurie said...

Happy 200th! I work at a Nursing Home so I spend my lunch hours with my "friends" and we talk about ol' times!

Nathalie said...

congrats on making it to 200!! I teach high school and love a nice quiet lunch where I can read a book and eat in peace!!

Mary on Lake Pulaski said...

Congratulations on 200 posts!! You are a "guide" in the classes. During my "lunch hour" I sit on the deck with my husband and watch the birds and the boaters on the lake - lucky me - I'm retired!

Jenn said...

Monday through Friday I enjoy eating lunch and having good conversation with my best friend and co-worker. We both love to bring out leftover dinners... no lean cuisine's for us, just fresh and healthy meals.

cathy said...

My favorite lunch is a salad duo, a green salad that incorporates leftovers from last night and a fruit salad with cottage cheese. I would enjoy making a lunch bag to carry my salad container and my iced latte cup.

Shannon said...

I love your idea about being a guide not a teacher. That is the answer to you question, heehee. I love to eat leftovers for lunch the next day. My favorite is cold pizza or warmed up chinese food.

Amy said...

I am not working now, but when I did a few of my co-workers and I brought various fixings to make a salad together. Our salads were always different, and it was fun to see the variety. Congrats on your 200th post!!

Happy 200th. Lunch is a quiet time here at home. I read my blogs and enjoy veggies of some sort...such as chopped veggies in a fresh homemade pita pocket. I would be thrilled to be the recipient of your generosity. Kristy in Ohio

Congratulations on your 200th post! How wonderful that you were the "guide". I am a stay at home Mom, but I remember when I did work that I would take my lunch out to the car and listen to a radio program called "Back to the Bible". I learned a lot and enjoyed the company of the radio ;-) Thanks for including me in your sweet giveaway.

Heather said...

Hmmm, and extra entry? Well for the first entry I would like to say that my fave place to have lunch is on my back deck or in the yard with my daughter having PB&J sandwiches. Especially on a sunny day with a breeze. Now, for the second entry, I must say that your question 'guided' me to re-read what I just read! Crazy me! I had forgotten by the time I got to the bottom of the post!

Linda K said...

Wow! Thanks for a chance to win ! And congratulations, "guide"!! Lunch is different everyday, cheese and crackers while reading blogs somedays, leftovers on other days and fun lunches out with friends whenever!

Denise :) said...

I usually work through lunch -- not that I don't eat, I just don't quit working while I eat! Most days I bring leftovers from the night before! Congrats on 200 posts! :)

I'ma teacher and often have about 10 minutes to sit and eat. I love the new thick high-protein Greek yogurt. Put one Splenda in a plain 0 Fat cup of yogurt and cut up a fresh apple and dip it in the yogurt! Quick and tasty and very healthy! Polly

Congratulations on your 200th!

The best part of my lunch is after I eat. Then my husband, the dog and both cats all scamper upstairs (along with me) and have a quick 10 to 15 minute nap. So refreshing and totally decadent!

Annette said...

Congratulations on the big 200! I think that being a guide is a wonderful way to teach, then students are free to use their own creativity. Lunch for me is usually a quick p/b sandwich and an apple. Not very fancy, but it staves off hunger.

Lisa said...

Congrats on your 200th post! My lunch is usually just leftovers or a pb&j!

Vesuviusmama said...

I usually blog during lunch, too! It used to be that I would eat quickly and then take a book, tie up some sneakers, and walk around town reading. I got lots of chuckles from people, but I was able to combine my need for exercise in a tight schedule and my desire for some fiction escapism. But now that I've changed my work schedule, I only have half an hour, so it is eating my packed lunch while blogging now.

Vesuviusmama said...

Is this a trick question? I am assuming you refer to yourself as "guide". Unless, of course, you refer to yourself as "Quilting Goddess Extraordinaire".

Deborah said...

Lunch time means alittle stitching or reading. It's a lovely giveaway.Congrats on the 200th post!

Sandie @ crazy'boutquilts said...

I'll bet those ladies consider themselves very blessed to have you as their 'guide' too! I used to pack my lunches all the time and I loved fresh fruit or tomatoes with a small container of cottage cheese. I liked to freeze my yogurt too. LOL I know~ everyone told me I was weird, but I loved it. A few triscuits and I was ready to get back to work. ;-) Congrat's on 200!

200th!???

WOW! and it seems like just yesterday you started your blog!

congrats on such a big accomplishment!!!!!!!

ok...... i have to think long and hard about the question proposed here. since i don't work out of the home anymore, i eat lunch when i want. so i guess my favorite thing about lunch is that if i sit on the couch to eat, i have a scottie on each of side of me, leaving drool marks on my pant legs. they try hard not to show that they are "starving". ha!
i also like to watch the food network when i eat lunch.

this is an awesome giveaway, sinta!!!!!! so generous of you!

Congrats on your 200th post! I usually like to have something quick to eat for lunch. I find that a simple tuna salad roll or chicken croissant sandwich is nice and quick.

Lisa said...

You consider yourself a guide rather than a teacher, I can relate to that!

Lisa said...

At lunchtime I do handwork, usually English paper piecing. I "guide" others in the technique too, and I enjoy it. It's actually changed the way I view sewing, I cannot get enough of it!

Kim said...

I like to "guide" my students too! At lunch I just hope to actually eat my lunch. Being a teacher on a good day I have 20 minutes. That doesn't allow me much time to warm something up and eat, and it is hard to eat a salad in that time! Congrats on your 200th post.

karen @ badlandsquilts said...

I love to spend lunch in peace...which with 4 & 8 yr old boys, will only be happening once school starts! Congratulations!

Jo said...

Way to go!
I am VERY lucky to work at home. Hubby farms so he is in for lunch...ours is simple leftovers, a fried egg sandwich, that type of thing so I am not very good at advice. I would eat fast and then paper piece if I had a "town job."

Unknown said...

Congratulations on your 200th post. What a great giveaway. On my lunch break I love to get a little stitching in and maybe have a nice PBJ!

Hi Sinta, I can't wait to have you "guide" me in October at retreat! Congrat's on post #200, I've enjoyed them all! On the subject of lunch, since I'm on the road so much, i try to make that my big meal of the day, lately I've been making wraps. Very versatile, grab a tortilla or even big lettuce leaves and fill 'em up. My favorite tho, is cream-cheese, cranberry sauce w/turkey on a tortilla...Thanksgiving when ever I want!! Nice give-away...fingers xxxx Deb

Deb said...

Congrats on the 200th post, enjoy your blog.

Deb said...

Forgot...my favorite lunch would be to sit outside on a beautiful day with the warm sun, nice breeze and have a sandwich and a cup of coffee....ah!

julia said...

Yaaaayyy! Congrats on 200 posts - I hope there will be many more because I love each and every of them...!!!
I don't have regular lunch times...it's dependent on my work schedule for that day...mostly it's just a quick cup of coffee and some minutes talking with co-workers...or, if the weather permits: taking my lunch (some sandwiches or the leftovers of the last dinner) outside in the garden and reading a book...sometimes I just have to relax without any other person near me...
I think referring to you as a "guide" when teaching a class is the best way to ensure that you're the best teacher you can be ~ I love your approach and definitely would take a class if the big pond weren't between us. 'Due South' is on my to-do-list since the pattern was released - I even had bought the fabric for it...but seeing your version makes me both sad and glad: sad, because I still haven't started on this project yet (too many flying geese...love the look but not making them) and glad that I waited so I am able to incorporate your fabric choices in my plans...it's so much fresher than the (yet beautifu!) version that Carrie made.
Have a "fantastabulous" day,
Julia

Marcia W. said...

When I took my lunch to work it was for one of two purposes: lose weight, or not enough time to go somewhere (when teaching). Things I packed included something sweet, crunchy, and protein. Sweet=fruit and/or plain yogurt with cinnamon, crunchy=raw vegetable or crackers, and protein (non-preservative meat/poultry or peanut butter). Frequently the protein was a whole grain bread sandwich (no mayo, mustard). I had a cute little compact tupperware box with containers and it fit a drink can in it too. We won't talk about what I ate when went out to lunch! Work was too hectic to attempt reading or anything else.

SarDee said...

Happy 200th! I like to read a book on my lunch break but it doesn't happen too often. My favorite lunch meal is any kind of tortilla wrap sandwich. I love that you're a "guide" ~ that's perfect. And I think of what I do in class exactly the same way ~ only I hadn't thought of the perfect way to describe it. Most of the ladies in my classes don't need me to make their quilt, they have the pattern. I'm there to guide them through the confusion I created in the pattern!

Lunch hour? I used to have those. My favorite thing to do was just spend an hour by myself, clearing my head and doing "whatever". Some days I would read a book or magazine, other days I would work on my "to do" list or even run a quick do-able errand. And some days I would just enjoy being outside watching the world go by. (People watching. Reality television without the price of cable.) My lunch hour was like a mini-vacation for me to do whatever I felt like doing. :)

My favorite way to spend lunch is chatting with friends or co-workers. I try to pack leftovers when I'm on the go, but if I don't have any I'll make myself a turkey and ranch roll-up on a tortilla shell. Quite yummy, not too filling, and fast to make! I just spread a thin layer of ranch on the shell, put a single layer of turkey covering the entire shell, sprinkle with cheese, and roll. Add some carrot sticks and a bag of chips and its ready to go.

Congrats on 200! I love to get some hand stitching done during lunch, or reading or blogging :O)

One favorite lunch is a crustless quiche that I enjoy making. It also has cottage cheese which cuts down on the "bad" stuff. Haven't made it lately so would likely leave something out if I tried to type it here.

The assortment of goodies looks like fun. While I am at home for lunch I have lots of candidates for the bags.

Congrats on 200th post!

My favorite way to spend lunch is sitting and in quiet. Sometimes outside in the sunshine!

Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway!

I work from home so my lunch hour is a bit different than most peoples. My favorite way to spend my lunch hour is out of the house and among other people =)

MY favorite lunchtime is with a woman from work. I asked her to join me for lunch and she said "I've worked here for 2 years and no one has ever asked me to join them for lunch. I'd love to go!" We've been friends ever since...

Sushi with my girlfriends, that's my favourite lunch option!

Catching up on news, and maybe some gossip with the gals I share my office with!

You prefer to call yourself a guide in lieu of a teacher. Mine lunch ritual is to share my time with my colleagues, I used to walk but get less than 22 minutes because I'm a teacher and have to get back when the kiddos are done with their lunch.
Great give away.
Visit me I'm having one too!

Kristy said...

I love to take a walk out of my office, down to the cafe or the park, it helps make sure I don't keep working while I'm eating!

Meegan said...

I found you via the jaybird quilts site. Let's see, I have three small children, and so my lunch time comes when they finally go down for their nap/quiet times. I usually spend that lunch hour catching up on my e-mails while watching DVR'd shows and eating a sandwich or something. Multi-tasking at it's best! My favorite lunch is a curry chicken salad sandwich and chocolate milk!

That book sounds awesome and so does your giveaway. I spend my lunch with my coworker sometime we walk in the park or go shopping or garage saleing in the summer. It is just nice to spend time together away from the office. Thanks for a chance to win.

The local quilting shop is less than 2 blocks from my office. I love to spend the time "dreaming" while wandering the lovely shop. Being there makes me feel wonderful.

I usually read through my blogs and then have a hand sewing project handy to fill my lunch hour!

Would love to come to one of your classes so you can be my "guide"! Won't happen though as I could never be a california girl - just plain ole northwoods for me!

My favorite lunch is cut up raw brocc, cauli, red onion & zucchini; olives, capers & feta cheese; one of those foil pouches of salmon; with a little balsamic drsg on it. YUM YUM & easy too.

When I was working (before children) I would love to sit and listen to Paul Harvey on the radio, eat my lunch (usually a sandwich) and read my book. When I finished eating I would take off on a walk until my hour was over. Peaceful. Miss those times with a 4 and 6 year old at home now :)

Congratulations on the 200th Post!!

Happy 200th post!

I can't give much interesting info on what I do at lunch time... I used to be a high school teacher, so lunch "hour" was 30 minutes. By the time you microwave food and sit down, it's time to go back to class.

My favorite recent lunch recipe is salad wraps. You take salad ingredients and wrap them in a tortilla to make the salad more interesting.

I love the Holiday Chicken Salad recipe from allrecipes.com - it's delicious!

What an adorable quilt! Congrats on 200! I actually just made myself a cloth lunch bag and lined it with iron on vinyl (great stuff!). But now that I have one in browns, it occurs to me I should have one in greens, one in blues, a red one would be nice... Thanks for the chance!

I'm guessing based on your post that you call yourself "a guide" My favorite way to spend my lunch hour would be checking flickr and google reader and then taking a quick nap in the car. Makes me less cranky and the afternoon not so long.

My favorite part of lunch is eating, of course. Silly!

I work from home (I am a self-employed artist) and so usually cook my lunch and don't bring it. Though, since I work from home and have night-owl tendencies, what might be your lunch is technically my breakfast. Still, a recipe I really like is browned butter pasta with sage, tomatoes and parmesan. It's really easy and unbelievably good: cook some pasta, brown some butter (enough to cover pasta as a sauce) with some chopped up fresh sage leaves in it so they get all crispy; when the butter is browned throw some fresh from the garden chopped tomatoes into the butter to infuse off the heat, then stir it all into the pasta with a good-sized pile of freshly grated fluffy parmesan cheese. That's it.

It's really good. In fact I think I'll go make some right now.

Anyway, do please put my name in the hat for the giveaway, and thank you.

I like to watch the noon news while I eat and look at the mail (and possibly a new quilt magazine). Being a "guide" sounds so much more "friendly" than teach!

Honestly, my lunch break is usually spent sewing. I drag quilts that I'm working on into work with me, and sit in the break room by the window and hand sew the bindings! My coworkers are used to it now :)
